Matt Jones joined the KRTV news team as the weekend meteorologist in October 2011.

He was born and raised in Colorado and developed a passion for the great outdoors living so close to the Rocky Mountains.

Matt graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver with a B.S. degree in Meteorology and while attending school, he interned at a local TV station for three years.

His passion for weather began at a very early age when he witnessed a tornado form and cross a field right behind his house.

Matt enjoys the challenge of forecasting the weather because it's constantly changing and unpredictable.

For the past two summers, Matt has been working as a professional storm chaser with Silver Lining Tours. Just recently, he had a life changing experience after witnessing one of the strongest tornadoes in U.S. history destroying the town of Joplin, Missouri in front of his own eyes.

When Matt is not storm chasing or forecasting the weather, he enjoys working out and watching sports. He also is an avid golfer and skier and loves to travel whenever the opportunity presents itself.
