The dispute between the Little Shell Tribal Council and a group known as the Little Shell Alliance continues.

On December 19th, the Alliance held a meeting to discuss a possible change in the tribal constitution; at that time, the Alliance said they would be sending out letters to tribal members asking for permission to change the constitution.

The Tribal Council responded today, saying that the Alliance efforts are illegal, and that the constitution can only be changed by the council or through a constitutional convention.

Tribal President John Sinclair says the Council plans to call a tribunal to deal with the illegal activities of the Alliance, and if participants are found guilty, sanctions will follow.

Along with the amendment, the Alliance is asking for new tribal elections and has accused the current tribal leadership of mishandling funds and postponing previous elections without cause.
